ADHD, Dyslexia, and Adult Autism Screenings in South Portland, ME
ADHD Testing
Our certified clinicians will use simultaneous testing to diagnose ADHD. This procedure includes standardized assessment tools, self-reporting, and a medical history interview to determine if ADHD is present; including any differential diagnosis. Our testing process is preferred by Primary Care physicians, as it looks at Five Main Clusters of Executive Functioning when diagnosing for ADHD
- Organizing and Activating
- Sustaining Attention and Concentration,
- Sustaining Energy and Effort,
- Managing Affective Interference
- Utilizing Working Memory and Accessing Recall.
You have options for managing your ADHD with or without medications*
Our clinicians strive to enhance your quality of life. Our assessment process will give you a definitive answer; including any differential diagnosis. You may have already had an ADHD diagnosis as a child. However, it isn’t uncommon for alike symptoms to be misdiagnosed or overlooked; i.e., Auditory Processing Disorder .
Adult Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
We no longer diagnose ASD for pediatrics.
Our qualified clinicians understand that an “official diagnosis” of Autism can be complicated and stressful for most parents. It is our goal to get you an accurate diagnosis, and create a fun and effective treatment plan for your child. Providers tend to outsource Autism Screenings to facilities such as ours! Reason being, we assess our patients a little bit differently than a physicians office; or other free agencies.
Autism diagnosis have become more prevalent in our current society. Our goal is to not be black and white. We understand if your child has sensory issues, or if your child is not meeting certain milestones. Our assessments are multi-tiered:
- Socialization and Play – Social Reciprocity
- Sensory and Self Control
- Monitoring Emotions and Self Control
- Shared Attention and Considering Others Attention*
- Literacy Skills and Executive Functioning
- and other assessment tools!
You may have heard, “Early Detection is Key” when relating to ASD. We firmly and strongly believe that “Early intervention is key”. A diagnosis is not always necessary/accurate before your child is of school age. While your two-year-old may not be making their milestone – speaking “X” amount of words and phrases – it is not always a concern. We will accurately determine the need for, and make sure we provide all essential intervention options!
Dyslexia Screening
You may have recently noticed some abnormalities in your child’s reading and/or writing habits. You may have remembered having difficulties in school at a young age yourself! A dyslexia evaluation can be completed alone, or in conjunction with other language/cognitive assessments. If you or your child have any of the signs/symptoms below:
- Decoding Ability
- Word or Letter Recognition
